Christmas 2016

2016 FAL

Finished just in the Nick of time! This Pineapple Blossom quilt was started in Bonnie Hunter's Class in September 2016 and was finished on Christmas Eve at 9:00 pm, ready to be wrapped and gifted on Christmas.

This quilt was #1 of the 2016 Finish-A-Log, 4th quarter.

 Pattern - Pineapple Blossom
by Bonnie Hunter
block size - 12 inches
quilt size - 63" x 84"

Yes -- I do see that one of the blocks is not in alignment. I actually saw this as I was sewing the binding two days before Christmas. This quilt top was finished and pressed in October, while I finished Ethel's Garden quilt. To keep it wrinkle free, I had folded it, right sides together and hung it up on a pant hanger. When I took it down, I laid it across the mid arm rails and unfolded as I rolled it onto the rails. I never saw this quilt completed on the design wall.

Lesson learned -- always take a photo of the quilt top BEFORE you quilt or load the rails.

I was told that it is not that noticeable - however I am not one to agree or not - as soon as I see this picture, my eyes go right to the tilted square.

This quilt was for my niece for her brand new bedroom - the colors were chosen based on her color theme for all her back to school supplies this year. Everything had to be be blue, white or black - the colors of her new Vera Bradley Backpack. I'm not sure if she noticed the tilted square or not, but to be honest, I have been put in my place! Only God is perfect!

Ethel's Garden - Burgoyne Surrounded

Previously #2 of the 4th quarter finish-a-long, I just finished the Burgoyne Surrounded this week -- and just in time!
2016 FAL

This quilt was started at the March 2016 Quilt getaway hosted by the Ninigret Quilt Guild. It was a mystery quilt which was taught by Louise who blogs over at Island Creations by Louise. Late this past summer, my coworker, Ethel, mentioned her plans to retire. I knew this would be a perfect quilt for her. She loves to work in her garden and will now have lots of extra time. The focus fabric is pink flowers and green leaves on a dark blue background. The light background fabric is a white on white floral print.

I certainly miss my friend Ethel already and it's only been two days. But I am glad she will now have the time to do all the things she loves!

I was off to find a spot to take a photo and came upon Prospect Terrace in Providence. This little park overlooks the city of Providence and is tucked in a neighborhood very close to Brown University and the RI School of Design.

4th Quarter Finish-A-Long 2016

2016 FAL

I was certainly unsuccessful in completing just one of the 3rd quarter list so they are also listed here. There are still too many UFO's to list. But I feel confident that this will be the "Quarter of Success". Here are a few that need to be completed soon:

1. Bonnie Hunter's Pineapple blossom.
Started in class with Bonnie, hosted by NBQA, in September 2016.

2. Burgoyne Surrounded
Started as a mystery quilt at the March 2016, Quilters Get Away.

3.  Ginny Beyer - Harlequin Charm.
Started June 2016.

4. Kaffe Fassett - Facet

5. Wool Applique

6. Bonnie Hunter's Quiltville Mystery Quilt

That's it for this quarter. All will be done soon!
